Privacy policy
Last updated 15 October 2026
This policy explains how SellPrivate ("we", "us") handles personal information. We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
- Sellers: name, email, phone, the property address and details, photos, asking price, and payment records (card payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store full card numbers).
- Buyers and visitors: the name, email, phone and message you send through an enquiry or contact form, plus your IP address for security.
- Technical data: server logs and basic counts of listing views. We do not use advertising trackers.
How we use it
- To publish and manage listings, including sending listing details (and the seller's contact details chosen for the listing) to the property portals included in the seller's package.
- To pass buyer enquiries to the owner of the property concerned or, for listings supplied by a partner agency, to that agency.
- To process payments, provide support, prevent spam and fraud, and meet legal obligations.
Who we share it with
Property portals such as realestate.com.au and Domain (listing details only), Stripe (payments), our hosting and email providers, and the property owner (for buyer enquiries). Portals handle the information they receive under their own privacy policies. We do not sell personal information.
Photos
We remove embedded location (GPS) data from uploaded photos. Sellers should avoid photos that show people, car number plates or personal documents.
Storage and security
Information is stored on secured servers in Australia. Access is restricted, and seller dashboards are protected by private links. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify you and the OAIC as required by law.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask to access or correct your personal information, or make a privacy complaint, using our contact form. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
